Miami breast augmentation surgeon answers in newspaper questions by readers
Implants shouldn't affect your ability to breast-feed
By DR. CARLOS WOLF
Q:I am 26 and would like to have breast augmentation surgery. If I get implants would I be able to breast-feed? If I breast-feed would I have to remove the implants first?
A: You will not have a problem with breast-feeding. Nor will you have to remove your implants to be able to breast-feed. Breast implants are now routinely placed under the muscle.
The key to avoiding future problems with breast-feeding is in the technique your physician uses to insert the implant. If your surgeon avoids the nipple area there is less chance of affecting your sensation and the ducts that carry your milk. If you are not concerned about breast-feeding that will not be a problem.
Breast implants can be put in around the nipple, under the arm, under the breast or through the belly button. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to each method. Therefore, you should have a conversation with your surgeon and ask about the advantages and risks of each method in order to make an educated decisionAbout the Author
